Typography

Shot Types

Producers and Distributors

We noticed that other coming of age films have typography which is bold and clear to read typography, it seemed common for the genre.  We chose this style of typography to help make the text as easy to read for the audience as possible. Another popular pattern we noticed in these films was that each separate line of text only lasted for one shot. When making our typography we kept this in mind, as well as only having the text appearing in longer scenes. We also followed the original order of typography that was seen in most films by having the actors names being one of the first shown while the directors shown last.

From our previous research into popular coming of age films we learned that the wide array of shots was a big part of what these films as it shows every detail of the characters life In our opening sequence we wanted to include common shot techniques that we had learned others of the same genre have used as well as some that we seen in these films ourselves. For example, in the opening of Ferris Bueller's Day Off there is a long shot which shows where the location is set preventing the audience from being lost. We included a range of these unique shots such as POV's and camera pans, as well as some more common shots such as short, medium and long.

In our opening sequence we chose what we thought were the most appropriate producers and distributors for what we were making. We decided to use Rogue Pictures, as they are a relatively small-medium sized company known for their action/thriller films. Rogue Pictures was our choice because it gives the audience an idea of what the film may be like if they'd previously seen any of their productions. We chose NewLine Cinema as our producer as they have made psychological thrillers in the past.
